Creative Counselling for Children and Adolescents in Esher
Hello, my name is Kate Shaw. I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor experienced in working with children aged 5 upwards and young people aged 13 upwards.
Children who come to work with me are often dealing with managing issues such as –
* Stress and panic attacks
* Feeling depressed
* Loosing someone special
* Feeling angry and ‘out of control’ with their anger
* Challenging behaviour at home or school
* Friendship problems
* Divorce or separation
There are lots of other issues that affect children and young people. Sometimes young people just need a place to talk.
My Way of Working
A young person’s difficulties may be triggered by events like bereavement, divorce or separation in the family, bullying, trauma or stress. At other times there may be no clear reason for the difficulty. Seeing a young person struggle emotionally can be painful and difficult for parents, family members and carers. Professional counselling can help by offering a confidential relationship where the young person's problems will be explored in safe ways whilst offering information and advice to the adults involved. The creative counselling I offer helps children to develop a growing sense of confidence and understanding. It also provides an exploration of new ways of coping with difficulties and an increasing experience of well-being in relationship to self and others.
I offer a carefully structured space in which a trustworthy relationship can build, allowing a sense of safety to grow. Working together at the young persons pace, difficult and confusing feelings, thoughts and behaviour can be explored. Using the arts provides a gentle and profound person centred avenue for expression, while the counselling relationship helps insight, self-awareness and self-care to develop.
I can also offer signposting and support for parents and carers. Click here to find resources for parents, or please call or e mail me with any specific questions or worries about a child or adolescent's mental health and emotional well-being.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. Click here to find out more about the BACP. Alll the services I offer are facilitated in accordance with the BACP ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy. Please click here to read the ethical framework. All my work is overseen by a clinical supervisor to ensure best practice.
